The 2005 National, Central Region, and MIAA Pitcher of the Year, he was also a first-team All-American. He holds the single-season (129) and career records (277) for strikeouts at UCM, and ranks second in school history with 31 wins. In 2005, he recorded a 15-1 record, breaking the MIAA single season record for wins, and had a 1.91 ERA and 129 strikeouts. Powers had a career ERA of 2.47, and ranks among the school record holders in nearly every pitching category. He also earned first-teamAcademic All-America honors, and won the Vernon Kennedy award for the Most Outstanding Senior Male Student-Athlete in 2005. During his three-years at UCM, the Mules went 165-24, finishing as National Champions once, and third in NCAA-II twice. He was an eighth round selection of the Minnesota Twins in the 2005 MLB Draft.
