UCM Probable Starting Pitchers at Fort Hays State First Pitch
  • Fourth-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball (34-6, 27-3 MIAA) is slated to wrap up its regular season schedule with a three-game MIAA series at Fort Hays State (4-38, 3-27 MIAA) April 29-May 1 at Larks Park in Hays, Kan. The series opener is slated for 6 p.m. Friday, April 29, with game two at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30 and the series finale at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 1. 
  • The Mules have already clinched their 28th MIAA Regular Season Championship and the top seed in the MIAA Baseball Championships after sweeping Pittsburg State in an MIAA series April 14-16 in Warrensburg. 
  • UCM is ranked No. 1 in the first NCAA-II Central Regional rankings released Wednesday, April 27. The top two teams in the final regional rankings released on the NCAA-II Baseball Championship Selection Show May 15 will host four-team, sub-regionals of the NCAA-II Central Region tournament. The top eight teams in the final rankings will qualify for the Central Region tournament. 
  • Central Missouri is ranked No. 4 in the latest NCBWA Division II poll and No. 5 in the most recent Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Coaches' Poll.

  • On the mound, UCM is paced by starting RHP Collin Jones (8-0, 3.25 ERA, 1 CG, 1 SHO, 61.0 IP, 56 H, 25 R, 22 ER, 11 BB, 51 SO), and relievers Conner Wolf (3-1, 1.33 ERA, 20.1 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 9 BB, 25 SO), Ethan Peterson (3-0, 2.66 ERA, 1 SV, 1 SHO, 23.2 IP, 16 H, 10 R, 7 ER, 5 BB, 27 SO), Caleb Rogge (2-0, 2.35 ERA, 1 SV,  15.1 IP, 15 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, 13 SO) and Brady Gavin (3-1, 0.82 ERA, 5 SV, 22.0 IP, 11 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 25 SO). 
  • As a team, the Mules are hitting .339 while limiting opponents to a .224 batting average. Central Missouri has a team ERA of 3.73 and a team fielding percentage of .972.
  • In the latest MIAA team statistics, UCM leads the conference in pitching (3.73 ERA) and batting (.339 avg.) and is tied for first in fielding (.972). 
  • Van Breusegen leads the conference in batting average at .444. He is also in the top-10 in slugging (4th at .774) and on-base percentage (3rd at .490).
  • Jones is second in the conference in pitching through 11 starts with his 3.25 ERA and ranks first in wins (8), while Gavin is tied for fifth in saves (5). 
  • Moore is ninth in the MIAA in batting average at .371 and ranks in the top-10 in on-base percentage (5th at .473), while Prudhom ranks in the top-10 in slugging percentage (8th at .690), on-base percentage (9th at .461) and homers (10th with 13). 
  • Chrisman is tied for third in the conference with his five triples, while Schnurbusch is tied for fourth with four three-baggers. 
National Leaders
  • In the latest NCAA-II national statistics, Brennen van Breusegen ranks 11th with his .444 batting average, and Collin Jones is 11th with his eight victories on the mound. 
  • As a team, the Mules rank 15th in batting average (.339) and 11th in ERA (3.73). UCM is fourth in win-loss percentage at .850. 
Last Time Out for the Mules
  • Harrison Schnurbusch homered twice, and Isaiah Pani and Sam Tatum each homered once as No. 1-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball took down Central Oklahoma, 19-4 in seven innings, Saturday, April 23, at Wendell Simmons Field in the final game of a three-game MIAA series.
  • Schnurbusch went 3-for-4 with his two home runs and drove in six runs while Pani added a 4-for-5 performance, including a homer, while posting five RBIs, and Tatum was 3-for-4 with a home run and double, going along with two RBIs, leading Central Missouri at the plate.
  • The two round-trippers for Schnurbusch were his second and third of the season, while Pani's home run marked his third of 2022, and Tatum's long ball was his second of the season.
  • Michael Chrisman and John Prudhom each went 3-for-5 with doubles, and Jack Schark (triple) and Garrett Pennington (double) also compiled extra-base hits in the win.
  • UCM reliever Tyler Rardin (5-0) earned the victory on the mound, allowing no earned runs on just two hits with two strikeouts and one walk in 2 1/3 innings.
  • The Mules scored at least one run in every inning except the second, including five runs in the top of the first and top of the fifth.
  • For the game, Central Missouri outhit Central Oklahoma, 20-6.
Notable Streaks
  • Brennen van Breusegen has a team-high 28-game hitting streak going into the series at Fort Hays State. Garrett Pennington is on a nine-game hitting streak while Jack Schark has at least one hit in his last six contests. 
  • Van Breusegen has reached base safely in his last 32 games -- a team-best. Pennington and Schark have reached safely in nine straight games while Michael Chrisman has reached in his last eight games.

  • Through 40 games, the Mules are outscoring opponents in the fourth inning, 58-13. Other notable innings that UCM is outscoring adversaries in so far in 2022 include the first (62-33), second (46-20) and seventh (40-6).
Series History
  • The three-game series at Fort Hays State will mark meetings 60-62 in the all-time series. UCM leads the series, 46-13. Last season, the Mules swept the Tigers in a three-game series in Warrensburg, winning 9-0, 8-5 and 16-7 in seven innings. 
UCM During the Crookes Era
  • Kyle Crookes has a 290-105 (.734) record now in his eighth season as head coach at Central Missouri.
  • Crookes is currently third all-time in coaching wins at UCM and is the fifth head coach to ever win 200 games. Crookes is 21 wins behind the second winningest coach in program history, Tom Myers, who went 311-91 (.774) in seven seasons as the Mules' head coach from 2008-2014. 
  • In 2016, he won his first conference championship as head coach at UCM. He added a tournament title in 2018 and his second regular season championship in 2019. The 2021 season brought Crookes his third MIAA regular season and tournament championship.
  • Crookes is up to seven MIAA Championships, four regular season and three tournament.
  • He also has three regional championships to his credit in 2016, 2019 and 2021.
  • During his six+ seasons at the helm, 63 players have earned All-MIAA honors, including 18 First Team nods and Players of the Year in Erik Webb in 2019 and Dusty Stroup in 2021. 16 players have earned All-Region honors, six All-American and four players have been selected in the MLB Draft.
  • The Mules were 71-29 in Crookes' two seasons as an assistant coach and captured the 2014 MIAA Regular Season Championship. The Mules garnered five First Team All-MIAA selections and three All-America honors during his two years as an assistant.
  • Crookes compiled a 292-164 overall record in eight seasons as the head coach at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College before taking over as an assistant coach at UCM.

Mules Baseball: Winningest Team of the 2000s
  • The Central Missouri baseball program has had unprecedented success in the last 30 years and has been even more impressive since the year 2000. The Mules were the winningest team in all divisions of the NCAA by victories (508) and percentage (.814, 508-116) from 2000-09. That success has continued through the 2020s.
  • The Mules are 1,017-275 (.787) since the year 2000. An average of almost 47 wins per season over the last 20 years, the most of any team in Division II.
