Mules Hit Four More Home Runs in Win Over Newman

Box Score WICHITA, KAN. (March 7, 2020) - Mules Baseball continued to crush baseball's Saturday afternoon in Wichita. UCM hit four more home runs and scored 14 runs in a 14-11 win to run their winning streak to 11 games and put them at 17-3, 5-0 in the MIAA. 

How it Happened
• A lot of hits in this one as the Jets hit 15 and the Mules 14.
• UCM was able to overcome some shaky defense committing four errors.
• Of UCM's 14 hits, nine were for extra bases. The Jets sprinkled just four extra-base hits among their 15. 
Dusty Stroup started the scoring with a two-run home run to left center. That was the first of three Mule runs in the first inning. Alex Madera legged out an infield single as Michael Sinks scored and the Mules were up 3-0 after one.
• UCM added to their lead with runs in the second and third. Erik Webb scored a run with a sacrifice fly and Harrison Schnurbusch went deep for the second time in the the series in the third.
• Newman got three unearned runs in the fourth. A strikeout should have been out number two in the inning, but the wild throw on the dropped third strike allowed the runner to reach. The Jes took advantage then with an RBI ground out and then two two-out RBI hits and it was 5-3 Mules.
Cole Taylor got two of the runs back in the fifth. With two outs he launched one to center scoring Michael Sinks as UCM was up four, 7-3.
• The Jets though responded in the home half of the inning with an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly again getting the lead down to two.
Josh Schumacher tripled with two outs to bring home Cole Christman with the Mules eighth run of the game.
• Newman led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run, cutting the lead to 8-6. The ended up plating five in the inning. Another dropped third strike allowed a runner to reach. Two RBI hits gave Newman a 9-8 lead and a run-scoring error put the Jets up 10-8 after six.
Harrison Schnurbusch tied the game in the seventh with a one-out double to score Sinks and Taylor who walked and was hit by a pitch. Cole Christman put UCM ahead with a double of his own and Josh Schumacher followed with a two-out, two-RBI single putt UCM back on top by three, 13-10.
• The Jets made it a two-run game in the bottom of the seventh with another two-out RBI. This time a single plated a run making it 13-11. 
Alex Madera gave UCM a three-run cushion in the ninth with a home run.
Jonathan Sprinkle came in and shut the door on the scoring striking out eight in three innings for the save.

Mules Stat Leaders
Harrison Schnurbusch drove in three runs and finished 2-4 with a double and a home run.
Michael Sinks reached base three times and scored all three times, singling twice and walking.
Alex Madera homered for the first time this season and was 2-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
Josh Schumacher brought home three with a single and a triple.
Dusty Stroup and Cole Taylor each homered and drove in two. 
Jordan Fowler started and was cruising through three innings. He ran into trouble in the fourth and fifth and finished his day throwing 4.2 innings and allowing five runs, two earned on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Jonathan Sprinkle earned the save throwing the final three innings and allowing just one run while striking out eight. 

For the Jets
• Derek Schumann threw 95 pitches in 6.1 innings and allowed 10 runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts.
• Devin Beard was 3-5 with a triple and two RBI. He also scored twice.
• Dalton Dinkel picked up four hits and drove in two.
• Jon Coufal finished 2-5 with a home run. 

News and Notes
• The win is the Mules 11th in a row.
• UCM remains unbeaten in the MIAA at 5-0.
Dusty Stroup has run his hitting streak to 15 straight games. 
• The Mules have hit at least one home run in six straight games.
• Central Missouri has scored in the first inning in 11 of their first 20 games.
• UCM has given up a season-high in runs in back-to-back games.
Tyler Kuhlmann picks up his second win in as many days and for the second consecutive day, faced just one batter for the win. 
• The Mules have hit 10 home runs in two games this series.
Jonathan Sprinkle's save is his first this year after saving 10 games a year ago.

• The Mules will go for the sweep of the Jets tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
