Mules Ink State Player of the Year Sorrells

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (May 21, 2019) - Central Missouri Mules Basketball coach Doug Karleskint has announced that DeAndre Sorrells has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Mules.

Sorrells comes to UCM after a highly successful career in the prep ranks at Grandview (Mo.) High School for coach Reggie Morris. The 5-11 guard led the G-Dogs to back-to-back Missouri Class 4 State Championships as a junior and senior. He finished his career at Grandview in the top-five on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,113 points. Sorrells also holds the school record for career three-point field goals made.

"DeAndre is a flat-out winner," said Karleskint. "He's a natural leader who sets the tone on both ends of the floor for his team. He played in an elite high school program, and an elite summer program, so he knows what it takes to win at a high level. We're really excited to welcome him to our UCM family."

This past season, Sorrells averaged 15.7 points, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game on his way to being named Class 4 State Player of the Year by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. On the grassroots circuit, Sorrells lined up across from some of the top talent in the country in Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League while playing for MoKan Elite.

"Offensively he can do a little bit of everything," Karleskint said. "He shoots the ball very well from the perimeter but is also very good at getting to the paint and creating opportunities for his teammates. Defensively, he's tough. He has quick hands and is very active guarding the basketball. We know our fans are going to love watching him play for the Mules."

Sorrells joins 6-7 forward Dyllan Robinson of Des Moines Area CC and Kendale Hampton of Youngstown State as members of the Mules 2019 recruiting class.
