EMPORIA, Kan. – Central Missouri Mules and Jennies track and field wrapped up competition in the 2022 MIAA Outdoor Championships Sunday, May 8, at Welch Stadium on the Emporia State University campus, with the Jennies placing second and the Mules finishing fourth in the team standings.
The Jennies compiled 117.5 points in their second consecutive outdoor runner-up finish while the Mules tallied 92 points in their fourth place showing. The Pittsburg State men and women swept the MIAA Outdoor Championship titles with 145 points for the women and 169 points for the men.
After capturing four event conference championships Saturday, UCM Track and Field added three more Sunday, finishing with a grand total of seven MIAA event championships and 19 All-MIAA honors in the three-day meet. To receive All-MIAA recognition, competitors had to finish in the top-three of their respective event(s).
Sprints/Hurdles
- Antonio Lay was the star on the track for the Mules Sunday, winning the MIAA Championship in the men's 100m dash and finishing runner-up in the 200m dash. Lay clocked a time of 10.16 for his first career 100m dash conference crown before posting a provisional time of 20.94 in his second place showing in the 200m dash.
- Lucy Steinmeyer led the Jennies Sunday on the track, finishing second in the women's 400m dash with a personal-best, provisional, and school-record time of 54.53.
- Jana Shawver placed third in the women's 800m run Sunday with a personal-best and provisional time of 2:09.49. Her time is the third-fastest time in school history. Mariah Elmore finished fifth with a provisional time of 2:10.93.
- Parker Wormek and Jathan Deberry finished sixth and seventh in the men's 110m hurdles with times of 14.26 and 14.30.
- Laia Gonzalez finished just off the podium in the women's 400m hurdles Sunday, clocking a provisional time of 1:00.91 to place fourth. Liberty Brown finished eighth in the same event with a time of 1:09.21.
Throws
- Ashlan Burton won her second conference title of the weekend and sixth overall for her storied career after capturing the women's shot put title with a provisional throw of 15.45m (50-08.25). Burton has won five-career MIAA shot put crowns and won her first-ever discus title Saturday.
- Paige VanBlarcum finished third in the women's javelin with a provisional and personal-best mark of 47.03m (154-03.00). Her mark is the second-best in program history.
- Addison Snowball placed ninth in the men's shot put with a mark of 15.43m (50-07.50).
- Trenton Flug finished 10th in the men's javelin with a personal-best and provisional throw of 61.72m (202-06.00).
Jumps
- Camryn Holloman won her first MIAA Championship in the women's triple jump, tallying a personal-best and provisional mark of 12.66m (41-06.50). Her mark is the fourth best in school history. Maggie Klover placed fifth with a provisional and personal-best 11.88m (38-11.75).
- Christopher Goodwin narrowly missed the podium in the men's triple jump, finishing fourth with a provisional jump of 14.76m (48-05.25). Carter Bell also posted a top-10 finish, finishing eighth with a mark of 14.01m (45-11.75).
Distance
- Cynthia Togom placed second in the women's 5,000m run with a time of 17:38.73.
- Paul Korir compiled a top-10 showing in the men's 5,000m run, placing ninth with a time of 15:06.34.
Relays
- The Mules 4x100m relay squad of Michael James, Antonio Lay, Cameron Hesker and Christopher Goodwin clocked a provisional time of 40.79 to finish in third Sunday.

The Mules and Jennies are scheduled to travel to Kearney, Neb., for the Nebraska Kearney Last Chance Meet May 14-15 before competing in the NCAA-II Outdoor Championships May 26-28 in Allendale, Mich.
