No. 6 Mules Baseball Turns Back Rogers State, 10-7, Winning 16th Straight Game

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – John Prudhom and Brennen van Breusegen both homered for the second straight game helping No. 6-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball up its winning streak to 16 games with a 10-7 victory over the Rogers State Hillcats in game two of a three-game MIAA series Saturday, March 26, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.

With the win, the Mules (21-3, 15-0 MIAA) clinched their sixth consecutive series victory. They'll go for their fifth straight series sweep Sunday, March 27, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.

Prudhom went 3-for-4 with his team-high ninth home run of the season, three runs scored and an RBI while van Breusegen added a 1-of-5 showing with a homer, run scored and three runs batted in, Chase Heath and Jacob Steele both compiled 2-for-4 performances with a double, leading Central Missouri at the plate.

UCM reliever Tyler Rardin (2-0) earned the victory on the mound after throwing an inning and giving up no earned runs on no hits with two strikeouts and zero walk, and Brady Gavin notched his second save of 2022, tossing 1 1/3 hitless and scoreless innings with a strikeout and zero walks.

The Mules trailed the Hillcats (15-13, 9-6 MIAA), 4-2, before exploding for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to gain a 10-4 advantage.

Garrett Pennington belted an RBI single to center field for the opening run of the frame prior to Donovan Ditto putting UCM in front, 5-4, with a two-run single to left field. Ditto scored on a Rogers State error for the sixth run of the inning, followed by Heath crossing the plate on a Hillcat wild pitch. van Breusegen provided the exclamation mark for the game, crushing a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall for a three-run homer. It was his third round-tripper of 2022.

Jesse Holguin went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Joel Escalante had a pair of hits, including a home run, leading Rogers State offensively.

RSU starter Jordan Ewig (4-3) took the loss after surrendering five earned runs and one unearned run on eight hits with no strikeouts and two walks in 5 1/3 innings of work.
