UCM Track & Field Wraps Up MIAA Outdoor Championships Sunday with Four Champions

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The University of Central Missouri Track & Field team wrapped up the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Championships with four championship performances on Sunday, May 3, at the Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex on the Pittsburg State University campus.

Sprints/Hurdles
  • Grizell Scarlett won both the women's 100m and 200m dash MIAA Championships. In the 100, she posted a provisional, personal best, and school record time of 11.21 before running a provisional, personal best, and school record time of 23.04 in the 200. Both of her times rank second-fastest in NCAA Division II this season.
  • Nolan Vancauwemberghe captured the MIAA Men's 110m Hurdles Conference Championship after running a provisional, personal best, and school record time of 13.52. That time is also the top time this season in NCAA Division II.
  • Ariel Kerr placed third in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.47.
  • Chika Bekwunye finished just off the podium in the women's 100m hurdles final, placing fourth with a provisional and personal best-tying time of 13.81. Her time is the second-fastest in school history. Michenainda Aritus also set a provisional and personal-best time, placing sixth at 13.91, the third-fastest in school history.
  • Connor McKee and Yunus Altinay both had provisional times in the men's 400m hurdles final. McKee had a provisional and personal best 52.75 to place fifth, and Altinay was sixth with a provisional 52.94.
  • Kye Mason ran a personal best time of 21.20 in the men's 200m dash final, placing seventh.
Relays Distance
  • Marianna Bizon finished runner-up in the women's 1,500m run with a time of 4:35.36. She also posted a top 10 performance in the women's 5,000m run, placing sixth with a time of 17:44.35.
  • Cooper Palmer was third in the men's 5,000m run with a time of 14:34.59.
Throws
  • The Jennies had three top-10 showings in the women's javelin. Addison Throckmorton was the MIAA Runner-Up with a provisional mark of 51.95m (170-5), Ally Fox was fifth with a provisional mark of 46.92m (153-11), and Karsyn Kanzler was seventh with a mark of 45.33m (148-9).
  • Madison Mears finished just off the podium in the women's shot put, placing fourth with a provisional mark of 14.18m (46-6.25).
  • Jackson Rooney had a personal best in the men's shot put, placing 10th with a mark of 15.71m (51-6.50).
Jumps
  • Landon Childs had a top-10 performance in the men's pole vault, finishing seventh with a provisional mark of 4.92m (16-1.75).
  • Kaira Mannio compiled a top-10 showing in the women's pole vault, placing ninth with a mark of 3.73m (12-2.75).
Team Scores
  • In the final team scores, the Jennies placed fourth out of 10 teams with 102 points while the Mules were sixth out of 10 with 76 points.
For the three-day meet, UCM compiled five MIAA Champions in Kristen Jones (women's heptathlon), Grizell Scarlett (women's 100m and 200m dashes), Nolan Vancauwemberghe (men's 110m hurdles), and the Jennies 4x100m relay, and 12 All-MIAA performances (top three finishes). In addition, the Mules and Jennies set four school records.

UCM Track & Field is scheduled to return to action at the Arkansas Twilight Meet and the Kansas State Ward Haylett Invitational on Friday, May 8.
