WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 7-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back on its way to a 13-1, seven-inning, run-rule victory over the No. 15-ranked Rogers State Hillcats in game one of a three-game MIAA series on Thursday, April 2, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (25-6, 16-4 MIAA) and Hillcats (28-5, 16-3 MIAA) are scheduled to play game two of the series on Friday, April 3, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.
UCM scored four runs in the first, two in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the sixth inning, and limited Rogers State to just one run in the second inning to secure the run-rule triumph.
Kaiden Ashton went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, three RBI, and four runs scored.
Ryker Edwards was 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Kaleb Ceola was 2-for-3 with a triple, and
Brock Kobel and
Cole Kreisel were each 2-for-4, pacing the Mules at the plate.
Central Missouri left-handed starting pitcher
Sawyer Allen (4-0) earned the win on the mound after allowing just one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 5 2/3 innings.
Rogers State pitcher Zach Horwith (5-1) suffered his first loss on the season on the rubber, surrendering six earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks in three innings of work.
For the game, the Mules outhit the Hillcats, 16-4.
