WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 7-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball fell to the No. 15-ranked Rogers State Hillcats, 5-2, in the second game of a three-game MIAA series on Friday afternoon, April 3, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (25-7, 16-5 MIAA) and Hillcats (29-5, 17-3 MIAA) are scheduled to play the series finale of the series on Saturday, April 4, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.
Central Missouri gained a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when
Cole Funkhouser scored on a Rogers State error, but the Hillcats plated a run in the third and two runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead and would not trail the remainder of the game.
Funkhouser went 2-for-4 with two doubles, and
Ryker Edwards was also 2-for-4, leading UCM offensively.
Central Missouri starting pitcher
Greyson Chappel (1-2) suffered the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.
RSU reliever Elijah Knowlton (1-0) earned the win on the rubber after giving up zero earned runs on one hit with two walks and one strikeout in an inning, while Ricardo Landeros secured his third save of 2026 after surrendering zero earned runs on three hits with one strikeout in 2 2/3 innings.
For the game, the Mules outhit the Hillcats, 7-4, but stranded 15 runners on base compared to just six runners left on base for Rogers State.
