WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Second-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball swept a doubleheader over the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 7, winning game one, 3-0 in seven innings, and game two, 5-1.
The Mules (5-1) and Wonder Boys (1-5) are scheduled to wrap up the four-game series with a single game on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.
Central Missouri scored all three runs in the game one shutout win in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Collin Dobson smacked a two-run single through the left side to drive in
Cody Moore and
Grant Hollister, before
Jackson Helberg scored
Cole Young on an RBI single, making it 3-0, Mules.
Dobson went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in, and Hollister was 1-for-2 with a double, leading UCM at the plate in the opener.
The Central Missouri pitching staff of
Jack Scott,
Cale Willson, and
Sam Wyrick threw seven innings of scoreless baseball. Willson (2-0) earned the victory after allowing no earned runs on just one hit with one strikeout in two innings, while Wyrick secured his first save of 2026 after tossing scoreless sixth and seventh innings with two strikeouts. Scott started the game and gave up no earned runs on one hit with four strikeouts in three innings of work. Â
A bases-loaded walk jump-started UCM in the nightcap, putting the Mules up, 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning.
After Arkansas Tech tied the game, 1-1, with a run in the top of the third, Central Missouri answered immediately, gaining a 2-1 advantage in the bottom half of the inning when
Ryker Edwards scored on an RBI ground out.
A Wonder Boy error gifted UCM its third run of the game in the fourth inning, prior to
Kaiden Ashton scoring on an RBI single from
Evan Vienhage in the seventh.
Cole Funkhouser scored the final run of the game for the Mules on an RBI fielder's choice from
Jackson Bryant in the eighth inning.
Vienhage went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and RBI, Edwards was 2-for-4, and Bryant was 1-for-4 with a double and drove in a run, pacing UCM in game two offensively.
Gavin Williams (2-0) was the winning pitcher in the second contest, surrendering one earned run on no hits in two innings of relief, and
Chris Massey earned his first save of the season after allowing no earned runs on just one hit with two strikeouts in the eighth and ninth innings.
