NEW ORLEANS, La. -- University of Central Missouri Jennies Track & Field's
Grizell Scarlett was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II National Athlete of the Week on Monday, Feb. 23.
A junior from Kingston, Jamaica, Scarlett won the women's 60m dash on Friday, Feb. 20, at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Ark., posting an NCAA Division II Provisional and personal best time of 7.25. She took down Samirah Moody of On Running -- the former USC Trojan who won the 100m dash title at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships. Her time broke her previous school record set earlier this season and ranks as the top time in NCAA-II this season. In addition, the time is tied for ninth-fastest in NCAA Division II history.
This is the fourth time that a female athlete from Central Missouri has been named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season. Scarlett joins Hannah VanBuskirk, Heavin Warner, and Erika Kinsey.
UCM Track & Field is scheduled to compete in the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Feb. 27 through March 1 in Pittsburg, Kan., at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
