CARY, N.C. – Top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball fell to eighth-seeded Angelo State, 3-2 in 11 innings, in its opening game of the 2024 NCAA-II College World Series Saturday, June 1, at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
The Mules (52-9) will face fifth-seeded Indiana University [Pa.] (38-17) in an elimination game Monday, June 3, at 12:30 p.m. CT (1:30 p.m. ET) in Cary.
With the game tied, 2-2, in the top of the 11th inning, Angelo State's Christian Garnett hit an RBI single through the right side to plate what proved to be the winning run in the contest.
Cole Moore and
Vance Tobol both went 2-for-4 with doubles, leading the Mules at the plate in the game.
UCM reliever
JD McReynolds (8-2) suffered the setback on the mound after allowing one earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and one walk in three innings.
Central Missouri starting pitcher
Conner Wolf threw seven innings, surrendering just two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and zero walks on 99 total pitches.
Garnett and Ryder McDaniel went 2-for-4, pacing Angelo State (42-19) offensively.
Rams reliever Caleb Heuertz (2-1) earned the victory on the rubber, giving up no earned runs on only three hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks in 7 1/3 innings while Johnny Stacy (4) secured the save after throwing a scoreless bottom of the 11th inning.
