KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced Central Missouri Jennies track and field standout
Madi Wulfekotter as the Association's nominee for the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
A recent graduate from UCM, Wulfekotter is one of 164 nominees advanced by their respective NCAA Division I, II or III conference for the 2023 Woman of the Year award.
The NCAA's Woman of the Year award recognizes graduated female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership throughout their college careers.
Wulfekotter, a standout track and field athlete from of Odessa, Mo., graduated from UCM with a perfect 4.0 GPA as an elementary education major.
In her five seasons, Wulfekotter took the Jennies pole-vaulting program to new heights. The four-time NCAA Division II All-American owns the school record in both the indoor and outdoor women's pole vault.
Her 4.26 meter (13 feet, 11.75 inches) indoor mark ties for the sixth-best height in Division II history while her 4.31 meter (14 feet, 1.75 inches) outdoor mark ranked at the top of the 2023 outdoor standings and ties for the seventh-best in Division II history.
Wulfekotter entered the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships – her final collegiate event – as the No. 1 seed in the women's pole vault competition. She concluded her college career with a third-place finish at the Division II championships with a height of 4.10 meters (13-5.25).
Wulfekotter also earned a third-place finish in the pole vault at the 2023 and 2021 Indoor Track and Field Championships, and earned a fourth-place finish at the 2022 Outdoor Championships.
To highlight her senior season, Wulfekotter was named Central Missouri's 2023 Dr. Peggy Martin Outstanding Senior Female Athlete Award winner. She was also named a finalist for the MIAA's 2022-23 Ken B. Jones Award which recognizes the Association's top female and male student-athletes from the academic year.
In the classroom, Wulfekotter was named a four-time USTFCCCA Academic All-American and a four-time MIAA Scholar Athlete. She was also a six-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll selection (indoor and outdoor combined) and was member on the UCM Dean's List every semester.
Throughout her years at UCM, Wulfekotter was an active member on the UCM Literacy Team and completed multiple volunteer hours in elementary classrooms. She also mentored UCM freshmen and spent time as a study hall leader and volunteer track and field coach.
Next in the NCAA Woman of the Year process, conference nominees will be reviewed by the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee. The NCAA will announce a Top 30 list – 10 women from each of the three Divisions – in October. Nine finalists will be introduced in November and celebrated at the Woman of the Year Award presentation during the NCAA Convention in Phoenix in January.
