Goodwin, Carbajal, Edwards Collect Wins on Day Two of ESU Relays

EMPORIA, Kan. – Kayla Goodwin won the heptathlon, Clay Carbajal captured the decathlon and Weston Edwards finished first in the men's pole vault open division to highlight Central Missouri track & field's second day of action at the Emporia State University Relays Friday, March 24, at Francis G. Welch Stadium.

Multi-Events
  • In her first-place finish in the heptathlon, Goodwin went a perfect 7-0, winning all seven of her events (100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m dash, long jump, javelin and 800m run), posting a personal-best tally of 5,476 points. Her mark is the best mark in NCAA Division II so far this season, ranks second-best in school history and 21st-best in NCAA Division II history. In her top finish in the long jump, Goodwin compiled an outdoor personal-best mark of 5.98m (19.07.50), which is third-best in NCAA-II in 2023 and fourth-best in school history.
  • Claire Luallen took second in the heptathlon, tallying a UCM personal-best 4,838 points.
  • Clay Carbajal compiled a personal-best 6,427 points to win the decathlon. His score is the top tally in NCAA Division II so far this season. Carbajal placed in the top four in all 10 of his events, including winning the 400m dash, discus, and javelin.
  • Vincent Wilson placed third in the decathlon with a personal-best 6,051 points – third-best in NCAA-II in 2023.
Pole Vault
  • Weston Edwards cleared a personal-best height of 4.50m (14-09.00) to win the men's pole vault open division.
Throws
  • Rachael Molly finished runner-up in the women's hammer throw invitational division, posting a provisional mark of 55.21m (181-01). That mark is second-best in Division II this season.
Jumps
  • Justin Hamrick finished fifth in the men's high jump open division with a mark of 1.85m (6-00.75).
Distance
  • Evan Finger placed fifth in the men's 1,500m run, posting a personal-best time of 4:04.36.
The third and final day of competition is scheduled for Saturday, March 25, in Emporia, Kan.
