WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Missouri Mules baseball used a six-run sixth inning to pull away and roll to an 11-1, run-rule, seven-inning victory over the Missouri Western Griffons in a MIAA game Tuesday, March 14, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules 16-7, 8-2 MIAA) are scheduled to host Newman (10-12, 4-5 MIAA) in a three-game conference series March 17-19 in Warrensburg.
Leading 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, UCM plated six runs on four hits and one error to open an 8-1 advantage.
After
Jack Schark worked a lead-off walk,
Vance Tobol reached on a two-base error before
Cole Moore drove in the opening run of the frame with a ground ball to first that scored Schark.
Max Holy belted an RBI single to center field, bringing in Tobol prior to
Chase Wilcox placing an RBI double down the left field line, driving in Holy, upping the UCM lead to 5-1.
Carter Young provided the exclamation point in the inning, crushing a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall for a three-run homer – his sixth home run of the season – for an 8-1 Central Missouri advantage.
The Mules tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and invoked the 10-run rule when
Chase Heath smacked a two-run single up the middle, scoring
Seth Kenagy and Holy and ending the game.
Moore and Kenagy both went 3-for-4 at the plate while Young was 2-for-4 with a round-tripper and three RBI, Holy collected two hits, and Wilcox tallied a double, pacing Central Missouri offensively.
UCM right-handed reliever
Adam Gray (1-1) earned the victory on the mound after allowing no earned runs on two hits with a walk in two innings of work.
Missouri Western (4-14, 1-9 MIAA) starter Brayden Haug (1-1) suffered the setback on the rubber, giving up three earned runs and one unearned run on seven hits with two strikeouts and a walk in five innings.
