EMPORIA, Kan. – Central Missouri Mules baseball earned another MIAA series win after splitting a doubleheader with the Emporia State Hornets Sunday, March 12, at the Trusler Sports Complex, dropping game one, 3-2, before rolling to a 10-2 win in game two.
With the game two victory and the 10-4 triumph in Friday's series opener, the Mules (15-7, 7-2 MIAA) secured a 2-1 series win over the Hornets (8-14, 4-5 MIAA).
After losing the opening game of the day, 3-2, Central Missouri responded in an emphatic fashion, scoring 10 runs on 15 hits to sting Emporia State in game two, 10-2.
UCM scored a combined five runs in the second, third and fourth innings to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 5-1 lead.
Max Holy roped an RBI double to right-center in the top of the second, scoring
Vance Tobol for the tying run, before the Mules scored three in the third for the 4-1 advantage.
Mason Lowe smacked an RBI single down the right field line to bring in
Jacob Steele for the first run of the third, prior to
John Prudhom bringing in Lowe with an RBI single up the middle, upping the Mule lead to 3-1.
Quinton Hall provided the final run of the frame, plating Prudhom on an RBI single to left field.
Adamo Stornello drove in the fifth run of the contest for Central Missouri, belting an RBI double to right-center that batted in Holy.
The Mules tacked on two runs in the top of the seventh when Prudhom crossed home plate on a wild pitch and
Brett Grupe snuck an RBI double down the right field line, scoring Tobol, increasing Central Missouri's lead to 7-1.
UCM put an exclamation mark on the game in the top of the ninth with three runs. Holy plated
Cole Moore and Tobol with a two-run single up the middle before
Jacob Steele hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing in Holy for the 10th and final run of the game.
Holy ended game two going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and three RBI while Lowe, Hall, Grupe and Stornello each had two hits, pacing Central Missouri at the plate.
Right-hander
Grayson Senn (1-1) earned the victory on the mound for the Mules in the nightcap, throwing three scoreless innings and giving up just one hit with four strikeouts and two walks on 55 total pitches.
UCM has a quick turnaround, as it is scheduled to host Missouri Western (4-13, 1-8 MIAA) in a midweek MIAA game Tuesday, March 14, at 3 p.m. at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field in Warrensburg.
