SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball program and former head coach Dr. Peggy Martin were enshrined into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023 in a ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 5, inside the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield.
"It was an incredible experience to have Jennies Volleyball inducted alongside so many great players, coaches, and sports enthusiasts," head coach
Caitlin Peterson said. "Having our entire program honored is a true testament to decades of Jennies who put their heart and soul into creating the winning culture we have here at UCM. We are so grateful for the foundation that Coach Martin and Flip built, and we are working every day to carry on that tradition," Peterson added.
Since the programs' inception, the Jens have posted an overall record of 1,530-428-9 including 51 winning seasons producing 73 All-Americans and 236 All-MIAA selections. UCM has 32 top-20 finishes, including 16 in the top-10 highlighted by a national runner-up finish in 1987 with a record of 42-2.
Dr. Martin, the 1987 Division II National Coach of the Year, led the Jennies to the postseason tournament in all but one season at the helm becoming the winningest coach in Division II history with a record of 1,064-281-8 (.789). In her 33 seasons as head coach, Dr. Martin coached 148 All-MIAA and 41 All-American selections while winning 19 consecutive MIAA titles from 1982-2000. Dr. Martin is a member of the MIAA, American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), UCM Athletic, and Mobile Sports Halls of Fame.
