Goodwin, Hodge, Shawver Highlight Final Day of MIAA Indoor Championships for UCM Track & Field

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Jack Hodge captured the men's indoor pole vault title, Jana Shawver finished third in the women's 800m run, and Kayla Goodwin earned the MIAA Indoor Women's High Point Award, highlighting the final day of competition for UCM track & field at the MIAA Indoor Championships Sunday, Feb. 26, inside the Robert W. Plaster Center on the Pittsburg State University campus.

In the final team standings, the Jennies placed fourth out of 12 teams with 80 points while the Mules finished sixth out of 12 with 60 points.

UCM finished the three-day meet with four individual MIAA Championships (indoor pentathlon, men's pole vault, women's long jump, women's weight throw).

Goodwin, who hails from Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand, earned the conference's high point ward after posting two conference titles and a runner-up finish during the meet. She won the indoor pentathlon Friday and long jump Saturday before finishing runner-up Sunday in the triple jump with a provisional mark of 12.63m (41-05.25) for 28 total points.

Pole Vault
  • Hodge captured the men's pole vault MIAA crown after clearing a personal-best and provisional height of 5.27m (17-03.50). His mark ties for fifth-best in indoor school history.
Sprints/Hurdles
  • Shawver finished third in the women's 800m run, posting a provisional time of 2:11.60.
UCM track & field will compete in the NCAA-II Indoor Championships March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Va.
