Mules Clinch Series Win Over RiverHawks with 6-1 Triumph Friday

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – John Prudhom homered, and Collin Jones pitched five innings of one-run baseball to lift the Central Missouri Mules to a 6-1 win over the Northeastern State RiverHawks Friday, March 4, in game two of a three-game MIAA series at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.

The Mules (10-3, 5-0 MIAA) secure their second consecutive series victory with the win Friday and will go for the series sweep of the RiverHawks (13-5, 3-2 MIAA) at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, in Warrensburg.

Prudhom, a senior from Racine, Wis., went 1-for-3 with his team-high fourth homer of the season, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Michael Chrisman and Harrison Schnurbusch each had two hits, including doubles, pacing Central Missouri at the plate.

A senior right-hander from Leavenworth, Kan., Jones improved to 2-0 on the mound in 2022 after scattering five hits and surrendering just one earned run with five strikeouts and no walks on 70 total pitches.

Northeastern State gained an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second inning, but the Mules answered immediately, tying the game in the bottom-half of the inning on a Jacob Steele sac fly to centerfield that drove in Brennen van Breusegen.

UCM gained the upper-hand in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs after Prudhom hammered an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run round-tripper, making it 3-1.

Central Missouri tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth, upping its advantage to 6-1 when Cole Moore smacked an RBI single to right field to bring in Chrisman, prior to Moore scoring on a RiverHawk throwing error and Prudhom crossing home plate on a van Breusegen sac fly to right.

Northeastern State outhit UCM in the game, 8-7, but committed four errors compared to zero miscues for the Mules.

Blake Freeman and Kademon Graff each went 2-for-4 with a double, leading Northeastern State offensively.

RiverHawk starter Seth Key (4-1) took the loss after allowing three runs – two earned – on four hits with two walks and no strikeouts in five innings of work.
