WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Central Missouri Jennies softball split a non-conference doubleheader against the Rockhurst Hawks Tuesday, March 29, at Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex, dropping game one, 7-5, before winning the nightcap, 13-9.
The Jennies (9-22) are slated to travel to Tahlequah, Okla., for an MIAA doubleheader against Northeastern State Friday, April 1, starting at 1 p.m.
Game 1: Rockhurst 7, Central Missouri 5
In the 7-5 loss in game one, the Jennies held a 5-4 lead going into the top of the seventh inning before Rockhurst's Calli Wibbenmeyer hit a two-run homer to left field, putting the Hawks in front and eventually leading them to the victory.
MaKenzie Cooper went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs while
Aubrie McRoberts was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, leading Central Missouri at the plate in game one.
Kyleigh Lay (4-8) suffered the setback in the circle in the opener for UCM, allowing four runs -- three earned -- on six hits with one strikeout and one walk in 2 1/3 inning.
Wibbenmeyer paced Rockhurst in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and six runs batted in.
Anna Newcomer (4-7) posted the victory for Rockhurst in the circle, going the full seven innings and allowing five earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
Game 2: Central Missouri 13, Rockhurst 9.
The Jennies used an eight-run sixth inning to rally for the 13-9 victory in the second contest.
Aubrie McRoberts slapped a two-run single to right field for the opening two runs of the sixth before
Abbey Fischer belted a two-run home run to left field and
Abby Allnutt plated two more runs for the home team with a two-RBI single.
Bailee Bryant provided the exclamation mark for the frame, smacking a two-run single down the left field line for the 13-8 advantage.
McRoberts and Fischer both went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, with Fischer adding her first homer of the season, and
MaKenzie Cooper homered for the second straight game and the team-best fourth time in 2022 and drove in a trio of runs, pacing the Jennies in the nightcap.
Sadie Parks (3-5) earned the game two win for UCM in the circle, allowing two earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Allison Shakiba went 3-for-4 in the batter's box, leading Rockhurst (12-16) offensively.
Hawks starter Bre Barchak (3-8) suffered the loss after surrendering eight earned runs on 11 hits with two walks six innings.
