Emporia State Takes Two from Jennies Softball Sunday

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Central Missouri Jennies softball dropped an MIAA doubleheader to the Emporia State Hornets Sunday, March 27, at Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex, falling by identical 5-2 scores in both games. 

The Jennies (8-21, 2-6 MIAA) are slated to host Rockhurst in an non-conference twin bill Tuesday, March 29, at 3 p.m. in Warrensburg. 

Game 1: Emporia State 5, Central Missouri 2

In UCM's 5-2 setback in game one, Peyton Corrigan went a perfect 2-for-2, pacing Central Missouri at the plate. 

Kyleigh Lay (4-7) took the loss in the circle for the Jennies, giving up five earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk in six innings.

Maddy Broxterman posted a 3-for-4 performance with a double while Emma Furnish was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in, leading ESU offensively in the opener. 

Emporia State starter Gracie Rabe (2-3) earned the victory after allowing two earned runs on five hits with seven Ks and four walks in a full seven innings of work. 

Game 2: Emporia State 5, Central Missouri 2

In Central Missouri's 5-2 loss in the nightcap, Laney Killpack was 2-for-3 with a double while Abby Fischer went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, pacing the Jennies in the batter's box in game two. 

Gentry Wishard (2-5) suffered the loss in the circle for UCM, allowing four earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks in four innings.

Maddy Broxterman went 3-for-4 with a double and a one RBI, and McKensy Glass went 2-for-3, leading Emporia (16-16, 5-3 MIAA) offensively in game two. 

Sydney Righi (5-4) picked up the victory in the second contest, throwing six innings and surrendering two earned run on eight hits with three Ks and three walks. Harley Strum posted her second save of 2022 after throwing a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning.
