Lay’s School Record Highlights Day 2 of Bearcat Invitational for UCM Track and Field

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Central Missouri sophomore Antonio Lay set a new school record in the 60m dash to highlight the final day of action at the Northwest Missouri State Bearcat Invitational for Mules and Jennies track and field Saturday, Feb. 5, inside Hughes Fieldhouse.

Central Missouri is scheduled to compete in the Gorilla Classic Feb. 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kan.

Sprints/Hurdles
  • Lay, a native of Memphis, Tenn., clocked a 6.65 in the 60m dash finals to best Imani Butler's previous program record of 6.73 set back in 2006 and finish first at the Bearcat Invitational. His time was also a meet record, NCAA-II provisional time and is the second-fastest mark in the nation this season.
  • Jana Shawver won the 600-yard run, posting a Hughes Fieldhouse and meet record of 1:23.22. Her time is the second-best in program history. Laia Gonzalez finished third with a time of 1:24.90 which is seventh-best all-time and a new personal best.
  • Tanner Skotnicki led the Mules in the men's 600-yard run, finishing second with a time of 1:11.56, while Michael James clocked a 1:11.83 to finish in fourth.
  • Jathan Deberry placed fourth in the men's 60m hurdles, posting an NCAA-II provisional and personal best time of 8.13.
Distance
  • Jennies senior Mariah Elmore posted a personal best time of 5:07.09 to finish third in the mile.
Throws
  • Senior Ashlan Burton won the women's shot put with an NCAA-II provisional and meet record throw of 15.87m (52-01.00). Her throw ranks second-best in the nation and third-best in program history. In addition to winning the shot put, she finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.86m (55-03.75).
  • Along with Burton, Rachael Molloy also posted a top-five showing in the weight throw, placing fourth with a mark of 16.66m (54-08.00).
  • Addison Snowball led the Mules in the shot put, finishing fourth with an NCAA-II provisional throw of 16.67m (54-08.25).
Jumps/Pole Vault
  • The Mules went 1-2-3 in the pole vault, with Reagan Ulrich winning the event, Vincent Hobbie placing second and Jack Hodge third. Ulrich cleared a meet record and NCAA-II provisional height of 5.21m (17-01.00), while Hobbie also cleared a provisional and meet record height at 5.11m (16-09.25), and Hodge cleared a provisional height of 4.91m (16-01.25).
  • In the women's pole vault, Madi Wulfekotter finished second, leading the Jennies, clearing an NCAA-II provisional mark of 4.01m (13-01.75).
  • Camryn Holloman won the women's long jump with a mark of 5.47m (17-11.50).
  • Maggie Klover picked up a top-five finish for the Jennies in the triple jump, compiling a mark of 11.36m (37-03.25) for fifth-place.
Relays Multi-Events (Friday)
  • Hannah VanBuskirk posted an NCAA-II provisional score of 3,614 points to finish third in the pentathlon. She clocked times of 8.96 in the 60m hurdles and 2:29.10 in the 800m run, and tallied marks of 1.69m (5-06.5) in the high jump, 10.30m (33-09.5) in the shot put and 5.15m (16-10.75) in the long jump.
