Palmer Highlights Day One of MIAA Outdoor Championships for UCM Track & Field

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Cooper Palmer was the MIAA Runner-Up in the men's 10,000m run, highlighting the opening day of action for University of Central Missouri Track & Field at the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Championships on Friday, May 1, at the Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex on the Pittsburg State University campus.

Distance
  • Palmer, a redshirt senior from Leeton, Mo., posted a time of 29:59.03 to secure a second-place finish in the men's 10,000m run.
Throws
  • Landon Mason finished just off the podium in the men's hammer throw, placing fourth with a provisional and personal best mark of 61.52m (201-10), which is ninth-best in school history.
Jumps
  • The Jennies had three top 10 performances in the women's long jump. Kristen Jones was sixth with a mark of 5.86m (19-2.75), Michenainda Aritus was seventh with a mark of 5.84m (19-2.00), and Lauren Welch was eighth with a personal best mark of 5.74m (18-10.00).
Multi-Events
  • After day one of the men's decathlon, the Mules' Owen Koski is in fourth place with 3,369 points, and Spencer Nunn is in eighth place with 1,296 points, with six of 12 events completed.
  • With four of seven events completed in the women's heptathlon, the Jennies' Kristen Jones is in fourth place with 2,935 points, while Marah Klover is in seventh with 2,684 points.
Prelims
  • Grizell Scarlett and Emily Meeks both earned spots in the women's 100m dash final. Scarlett finished first in the prelims with a provisional time of 11.43, while Meeks was ninth with a time of 11.94.
  • Ariel Kerr secured a place in the men's 100m dash final after placing third in the prelims with a provisional time of 10.43.
  • Yunus Altinay and Connor McKee advanced to the men's 400m hurdles final. Altinay placed fifth in the prelims with a provisional and personal best time of 52.24, and McKee was eighth with a personal best time of 53.13. Altinay's time ranks sixth-fastest in school history.
  • Kendall Gray secured a spot in the women's 400m hurdles final after placing seventh in the prelims with a time of 1:04.58.
  • Kye Mason earned a spot in the men's 400m dash final after finishing ninth in the prelims with a time of 48.09.
  • All finals are scheduled for Sunday, May 3.
The Mules and Jennies continue competition in the MIAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday, May 2, in Pittsburg, Kan.
