MARYVILLE, Mo. – Collin Jones tossed five scoreless inning and struck out five, and
John Prudhom homered leading Central Missouri Mules baseball to a 4-0 shutout win at Northwest Missouri State in game one of a three-game MIAA series Saturday, Feb. 26, at Bearcat Baseball Field.
The Mules (6-3, 1-0 MIAA) and Bearcats (4-7, 0-1 MIAA) are slated to play game two of the series Sunday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m.
A senior right-hander from Leavenworth, Kan., Jones (1-0) earned his first win of the season on the mound after surrendering just two hits and allowing no earned runs with five Ks and only two walks on 68 total pitches in his five innings of work.
Prudhom, a senior infielder from Racine, Wis., belted his team-high third homer of the season – a solo shot – while
Cole Moore and
Donovan Ditto added doubles, and
Carter Young and
Harrison Schnurbusch each compiled singles, rounding out the Central Missouri offense for the game.
Prudhom put the Mules in front, 1-0, when he smashed a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall in the second inning.
UCM increased its advantage to 4-0 with a trio of runs in the top of the third on a two-RBI double to left-center from Moore and a Bearcat balk.
Ryan Koski, Drew Macki and Caden Ofper each had one hit, pacing Northwest Missouri in the batter's box.
Bearcat starter Max Spitzmiller (2-2) suffered the loss on the rubber after tossing a complete game and allowing four earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in nine innings and 123 pitches.
