Mules Cross Country First, Jennies Second at Border War XC College Challenge

Elsah, Ill. - The Central Missouri cross country teams competed in the Border War Cross Country College Championship hosted by Principia College on Friday, Oct. 7, at the North Farm Cross Country Course.

The Mules cross country team finished the meet in first place clocking a total time of 2:08:31.41 earning 22 points respectively.

Individually, all five scoring runners finished in the top 10 including three in the top five. Bryan O'Barr placed second with a time of 24:53.87 earning one point, while Cooper Palmer recorded the 8k race at 25:11.6, good enough for fourth place overall (scoring three points), and Brady Maher rounded out the top five with a time of 25:53.01 (earning four points).

Also scoring for the Mules were Alejandro Malave and Luke Engel. Malave, a native of Waynesville, Mo. finished the race in 26:02.46 (scoring six points). Engel, a sophomore from Kingsville, Mo., capped off the scoring in ninth place with a time of 26:30.47, good enough for eight points.

On the women's side, the Jennies finished the meet in second place in a time of 1:40:16.38 earning 28 points overall.

Three Jennies' runners placed in the top six including Risper Mengich, Chloee Belgum, and Katie Bean. Mengich ran the 5k in 19:42.25 (first place, one point scored), while Belgum posted a second place finish at 19:46.52 (two points scored), and Bean crossed the finish line with a time of 20:00.57 (sixth place, six points scored).

Senior Lilian Busienei finished in tenth place with a time of 20:10.16, scoring nine points and Rylee Adams scored 10 points with an 11^th place finish crossing the line at 20:36.88 respectively.

The Mules and Jennies next meet is Friday, Oct. 21, at the Southwest Baptist Bearcat Open in Bolivar, Mo.
