Jennies Comeback Over MWSU to Advance to Semifinals

TOPEKA, Kan. (April 16, 2021) - Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball won their opening round game of the MIAA Spring Volleyball tournament 3-2 (17-25, 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 15-8) over Missouri Western. The wins puts the Jennies in tomorrow's semifinals.

The Jennies and Griffons hadn't met during the regular season. Missouri Western jumped on top early taking set one 25-17. The Griffons looked to go up two sets to none, but the Jennies were able to squeak by in the closest set of the match, 25-23 to tie at one apiece.

UCM took a 2-1 lead winning set three 25-17, but MWSU was there to respond with a 25-19 win in set four to force a fifth and final set.

In the final frame, the Jennies got on top 7-2 and never looked back on their way to a 15-8 win to advance to the semifinals.

The Jennies have a quick turnaround playing in the first game of the day at 11 a.m. UCM will take on Northwest Missouri who defeated the hosts Washburn in five sets. These two teams met less than a month ago, also in Topeka, with the Bearcats sweeping the Jennies 3-0. Should UCM advance to the finals, they'll play the winner of Nebraska-Kearney and Central Oklahoma at 4 p.m.
