WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 10, 2021) - Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball returned home to the Multi and set down the Missouri Southern Lions in straight sets - 25-9, 26-24, 25-21.
The win puts the Jennies at 10-3 during the regular spring season. They've clinched the top seed in the MIAA South Division in next week's spring tournament.
Set one was all UCM. They were firing out of the gates opening up an 11-3 lead. Central Missouri extended their lead to 18-5 and were able to cruise to a 25-9 set one win.
The second set was a much different story. The Jennies trailed for most of it, but continued to battle. The Lions opened up a late three-point lead, 20-17, but UCM was able to rally and tie the set at 21. Missouri Southern was at set point, 24-22, but the Jennies again answered, scoring the final four points for a 26-24 win.
Central Missouri had a lead for much of set three, but the Lions didn't go away. UCM scored five of the first six points for an early 5-1 lead. MSSU cut it down to two, 8-6 before a 6-3 run put the Jennies back up five, 14-9. The Lions cut it to two again, 17-15, but couldn't get any closer.
Aubree Bell landed a kill to win the match for the Jennies 25-21.
With the MIAA Volleyball spring season wrapped up, the league has announced the seeding and matchups for next week's tournament. The two day tournament will run Friday, April 16-Saturday, April 17. All 11 MIAA teams qualify for the single-elimination tournament which will see 10 total matchups.Â
The Jennies are the No. 1 seed in the South Division. They will take on the winner of Emporia State and Missouri Western in their opening game. First serve for the Jennies is scheduled for 5 p.m.
The entire tournament will take place in Topeka, Kan. It will feature seven games on two courts on day one. Saturday will see the two semifinal games and the championship match.Â
