UCM Leads Through Round 1 of UCM Jennies Golf Invitational

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 25, 2019) - Central Missouri Jennies Golf continues to roll right along this spring. After winning their first spring outing, the Missouri Western Holiday Inn Express Invitational, the Jennies stayed home to host the Jennies Golf Invitational and have experienced similar results so far, leading after the first round.

UCM has a four-stroke lead over Northwest Missouri with a +29, 313. Two Jennies are in the top three led by Molly Saporito who had the lowest score in round one with a +2, 73. Isabella Hadden is tied for third after an opening round +5, 76.

The Jennies have two teams competing this week. Their A team is leading while their B team is tied for eighth place with a +48, 332.

In the first round, the Jennies A team had the most holes scored at par with 49. They also led at par-four scoring with a 4.49 average and +17 total. Individually, Olivia Sobaski and Maggie Kohl shot an even-par on par-three holes and Saporito's 14 pars are the most in the field. Sobaski is right behind Saporito with 12 and Hadden 11 as they go 1-2-3 in pars scored.

It was a bit of a slow start for the Jennies who's five-player total through nine holes was a +27. Four of the five improved on the back nine though as UCM ended the round with a five-player total of +16 for the final nine holes.

After bogeying her first two holes, Saporito bounced back with just one more bogey over her final 16. She came through nine at +3, 39 and bettered that to shoot one-under par on the back nine with one birdie and eight pars carded. She was one-under par going back to her final 13 holes.

Currently tied for 10th place are Olivia Sobaski and Madison Grisham. They both shot a +8, 79 with a +5 on the front nine and a +3 on the back and one birdie in their round.

Rosie Klausner is tied for 20th place with a +11, 82. Klausner was five-over-par on the first nine holes, hitting par-or-better on five of nine and six-over-par on the back-nine, carding a par or better on three of nine holes.

The final Jennie on the A team is Emma Solovic. She's tied for 35th place with a +14, 85. Solovic matched Saporito with a four-stroke improvement from the front to back nine. She was nine-over par on to start her round, double-bogeying two of her first three holes. She settled down though and hit par on her first five holes on the back nine.

The B team is led by Hadden's +5, 76. She started on the back-nine where she was a +2 with two bogeys and seven pars. She finished her round with her only birdie on hole eight, her next-to-last hole, and a bogey on nine close at +5.

Maggie Kohl shot a +9, 80 in round one and sits in a tie for 14th place. Kohl was fairly consistent from the front to back nine with a +4 on the back and +5 on the front.

Brinkley Beever started her round well on the back nine and was +6, 41 through nine holes. She hit par on three straight holes, 16-18, her longest stretch hitting par or better on consecutive holes. Her round finished though with a 10-over-par 46 on the front nine.

Macie Myers rebounded from a tough start to finish very strong. Her first nine holes saw her at +14, 49, but she bettered that by 10 strokes on the front nine with a +4, 40. She scored par on five of her final six holes. With a +18, 89, Myers is tied for 58th place.

Katie Scheffer shot a +11 on both the front and back nine. She rounds out the scoring for the UCM B team with a +22, 93 and is tied for 63rd place.

Playing as individuals are Blake Betke and Brianna Walker. They both shot a +15, 86 in round one and are tied for 41st place. Betke hit a birdie on hole 17 while Walker collected seven holes at par.

The second round will kick off tomorrow at 9 a.m. The B team tee-times begin at 9 a.m. while the A team goes off at 10:36 a.m. Both teams will start from hole one. The individuals will begin at 10:36 on hole 10. The B team will be playing with Augustana and Minot State while the A team is paired with Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western.
