Strong Showing for Track & Field In Final Meet Before MIAA

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 16, 2019) - Central Missouri had their final showing before next week's MIAA Conference Championships. The Mules and Jennies hosted the UCM Classic and left with strong performances.

Jumps
• Known more for her triple-jumping (and perhaps her volleyball playing), Audrey Fisher took her first long jumps of this afternoon. She not only set a new PR, but hit an NCAA provisional qualifier and moved to seventh all-time in the event with a jump of 18-9. She hit the big jump on her final attempt, improving by 0.16m from her previous best of the day. Kyra Webster took second place in the event with a PR of her own, jumping 16-5.75. Brent Alumbaugh won the long jump for the men with a leap of 22-7.75

• Central Missouri also took first place in both men's and women's pole vault. Callie Ruffener and Cassie Jennings each cleared 12-1.5 for the women and Jan Jansky was successfully over 16-2. Trent Davis improved his PR by more than a foot, jumping 13-2.5. 

• Cade Conley was the winner in the men's high jump. He set a new PR jumping 6-4.75. Lauren Nelson matched her career-best in the event to take second place at 5-1.75.

Throws
• Nathan Liby moved into third place all-time at UCM in the weight throw with his new PR mark of 66-6. That mark puts him a top the MIAA. Nathan Cummings finished second in the event, throwing 57-1. UCM went finished in second and third in the men's shot put. Dalton Lewallen threw 58-4.5 and Cummings 58-3.75.

For the women's throwers, Ashlan Burton won both the weight throw and the shot put. She set a new PR in the weight throw throwing 53-4.5. She then came back and won the shot put throwing 50-2.75. UCM also grabbed second-place in both events. Alisha Straws was second in the shot put throwing 43-5.25 for a PR, and Rachel Schultz was second in the weight throw at 49-5. 

Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
• Kacey Kohlhof sprinted her way into the UCM top-10. She is now tied for ninth in the 60m dash after winning the event in 7.76 seconds. The Jennies took the first four spots in the event with Grace Wormek taking second (7.89), Destiney Nash third (7.92) and Jyl Stewart fourth (8.05). Stewart also won the 200m dash in 27.42.

• The Jennies took the first three spots in the 400m dash as well. Alex Foote' was the winner in 59.76 which is a personal-best. Mariah Elmore ran the open 400m for the first time in her career at UCM and took second place in 59.95. Wormek finished third in 1:01.53.

• Lauren Nelson not only matched a personal-best in the high jump, but she was the winner in the 60m hurdles, running 9.58. Cassidy Harris took third in 9.89. 

• On the mens side, Akeemo Minott was the winner in the 60m dash, running 6.94. Zion Perry was third at 7.00 and Kyzer Ramer fourth in 7.05. Cale Neville was UCM's top finisher in the 200 running 24.39 to place fifth while Austin Staib was right behind him in sixth running 24.56. Corey Timberlake was second in the 400m running 55.22.

• Brett Shaffer took first place in the 60m hurdles running 8.61. Multi-eventers Trey Miller (8.68), Trent Davis (8.96) and Garrett Francis (9.09) all ran personal-bests in the preliminary rounds while Calaway Scholes ran 9.02 to finish fourth in a personal-best.

• Central Missouri took the top-two places in the women's 600 yard run. Taylor Larson won the event in 1:32.24 and Alexis Sroor was right behind her in 1:33.93. 

• UCM's 4x400m relay team of Francis, Davis, Scholes and Elliott Anderson finished second running 3:34.06.

Distance
• It was another week where Cynthia Togom ran into the UCM history books. She won the 3K in 10:00.06 which is the second fastest time in school history. She bested the next closest competitor by 1:44 and even needed to spot in the middle of the race to tie her shoe. Her time is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Ryan Skopec took second in the event for the Mules running 9:15.19. Zach Adams was third with a new PR time of 9:21.46.

• In the 800m, Alex Philipps set a PR running 2:01.05 to win the event. Kimberlee Sewester was second for the women in 2:29.08 and Karyann Carroll third in 2:31.82. 

• The mile run saw the return of Amy Marx for the first time this season. She ran a 5:24.31 to win the event. Aaron Westhoff was the Mules top finisher in third place running 4:31.51, a new PR.

Next up for UCM is the MIAA Conference Championships. The three-day meet will be held in Maryville, Mo. on the campus of Northwest Missouri next weekend, Feb. 22-24.
