St. Charles, Mo—Central Missouri has two athletes leading the multi-events after the first day of the MIAA Championships.
Zoe Sharplin racked up 3348 points through the first four events of the decathlon, while
Tyler Chancellor earned 3883 points off of five of the 10 heptathlon events.
Madison Smith was only 40 points behind Sharplin, finishing the first day of competition in second place, while
Victoria Jackson was fourth (2978), and
Katie Cassidy was eighth (2747).
Blake Seitz also finished in the top three for the men, with 3555 points, while
Seth Kendrick was eighth (3240).
Sharplin had three top-two finishes, winning two events. She began the meet with a first place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.12), followed by a second place mark, at 5'6.5", in the high jump. Sharplin was first again in the shot put (42'1.25"), before finishing the day at fourth in the 200m dash (25.64).
Smith also picked up two first place finishes, in the high jump (5'8.75") and the 200m dash (25.35). She was third in the 100m hurdles (14.18) and sixth in the shot put (35'6.5").
Jackson had her best performance of the day in the shot put, with a second place throw at 38'11.5". She was fourth in the 100m hurdles (14.18), tenth in the 200m dash (26.55), and eleventh in the high jump (4'11.5").
Cassidy caps off the Jennies competing in the decathlon. She had her best finish in the 200m dash with a time of 25.63. She was also seventh in the high jump (5'1.75"), eleventh in the 100m hurdles (15.94), and thirteenth in the shot put (31'0.5").
On the men's side, Chancellor was first in the long jump (22'11.25") and the shot put (45'10.5"). He tied for second in the high jump (6'2.25"), and fourth in both the 100m dash (11.15) and the 400m dash (50.04).
Seitz won the high jump with a 6'4.75" mark, and was second in the shot put (43'10"). He finished seventh in both the 100m dash (11.47), and the long jump (20'8"), and ninth in the 400m dash (52.63).
Kendrick had two seventh place finishes, in the long jump (20'8") and the 400m dash (51.89). He was eighth in the 100m dash, with a time of 11.53, and eleventh in both the shot put (35'11.5") and the high jump (5'8.5").
Day two of the conference championships will begin at 10 a.m. The final events of the decathlon and heptathlon will take place, before the field events begin around 1 p.m. Track preliminary events will follow. Â
