No. 14 Jennies win over Southwest Baptist

Bolivar, Mo. – No. 14 Central Missouri (5-5, 2-0 MIAA) won their second MIAA match of the season in three over Southwest Baptist (5-5, 0-2 MIAA) on Friday night. The Jennies did not allow the Bearcats to reach 20, with set scores at 25-17, 25-17, 25-19, for the 18th straight win over Southwest Baptist.

The Jennies won the first two sets with ease. In set one, the Jennies started with four consecutive points, including a service ace from Shelby Winkelmann to start the match. Central Missouri was able to string together three more points after allowing two points scored, to take a 7-2 lead. Maddie Jones had her third kill of the set at 13-6,giving the Jennies their largest lead of the set. Southwest Baptist never came close to catching the Jennies, and the set ended with a kill from Sojka.

Southwest Baptist took a 4-2 lead to start the second set, but it did not last long. Central Missouri  scored nine of 13 points to follow, four of which were kills from Haley Thompson, to take the lead for the rest of the set. The set ended with four consecutive points for Central Missouri.

The Bearcats again took an early lead in the third set, Central Missouri had five points in a row to take the lead at 6-5, two of those were aces from Winkelmann.  Both teams earned a point or two to follow, eventually the Jennies won eight of nine points to again lead Southwest Baptist at 16-11. Annie Reilly had back-to-back aces in the point streak. The Jennies won five more points in a row at 22-15, with two kills from Jessica McDougald, to all but seal the Bearcats fate. Sojka earned the Jennies their final point of the match.

Jones had a team-high 13 kills and four blocks. She hit .417 in the match, with only three errors off 24 attempts. Sojka and H. Thompson each had six kills and two blocks. This was the third match in a row that H. Thompson has served an ace, she has five total this season. McDougald had five kills and a block for five points in the match, while Becca Blaise had four and a half points with two kills, three blocks and an ace.  Kourtney Thompson had her fourth double-double of the season, with 28 assists and 11 digs.  Winkelmann had five aces in the match, while Reilly was one behind her with four. Reilly also had 14 digs.

The Jennies will face Pittsburg State in their home opener tomorrow. The match will begin at 3 p.m. at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
