The Lions (14-12, 9-11 MIAA) plated a single run in the fifth thanks to a Mule throwing error, but would get no more.

David Reese (3-2) took the loss for Missouri Southern after giving up two runs on six hits in six innings.

MSSU jumped on top 1-0 in the second inning of game two on a Dusty Harper RBI single. The Mules responded, however, with six runs in the home half of the inning to take the lead for good.

Seth Wheeler had an RBI single to tie the game and Jake Alexander broke the tie with a bases loaded double that scored three. Wilson added an RBI single as did Tony Sandifer.

The Lions plated a run in the fifth on a Logan Moon single to right field, but Maas added an RBI single of his own in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-2.

MSSU scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to pull within 7-4, but Kevin Gratza was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the home half of the seventh to push the lead back to four at 8-4.

Lucas Williams (1-0) picked up his first career win going five innings and allowing two runs on five hits. Zach Davis recorded the final out of the game, striking out Axel Johnson with the bases loaded for his third save of the series and fifth on the season.

Drew Noble (3-3) took the loss for Missouri Southern. He allowed six runs on four hits and walked four in two innings of work.

The Mules are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Emporia, Kan. for a single nine-inning non-conference game with Emporia State. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia.
