(NEW ORLEANS, La.) – After graduating with a perfect 4.00 GPA, Mules decathlete
Shawn Boss was named the Division II Scholar Athlete of the Year for men's indoor track by the USTFCCCA. Boss finished second in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships back in March, the best finish of any athlete on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Honoree list.
Boss (Oak Grove, Mo./Oak Grove HS) qualified for the indoor nationals after winning the UCM Mule Relays in February with a score of 5,029. Seeded eighth heading into the Championships, Boss finished second, totaling a personal-best 5,110 points. He graduated this spring with a degree from Central Missouri in Computer Information Systems.
The award is the latest in a long line for Boss over the past few months; earlier this spring, Boss was one of the recipients of the Vernon Kennedy Award, given to the top senior male student-athlete at UCM. He followed that up by winning the Ken B. Jones Award, earned by the top male and female student-athletes in any sport in the MIAA.
Dalton Moberly was also named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Honorees list after graduating with a 3.93 GPA in Social Studies Education. In a field stacked with Division I talent, Moberly placed seventh in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:18.86, earning a trip to the Indoor Championships.
Moberly (Kearney, Mo./Kearney HS) was an NCAA Elite 89 recipient at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at each championship site. Boss also won the Elite 89 award for men's indoor track.
To earn a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Honoree list, each student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, and qualify for either the NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
