Box Score (KIRKSVILLE, Mo.) – The No. 2-ranked Central Missouri Mules swept an MIAA doubleheader from Truman State 13-1 and 6-0 at the Truman Baseball Park on Friday afternoon. The win in game one gave UCM Head Coach Tom Myers his 200
th career win and improves his overall record to 201-54 in his fifth season leading the Mules.
The Bulldogs (1-9, 1-5 MIAA) tallied a single run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Zak Larkin singled, stole second and later scored on an RBI single by Pete Jurich. The Mules (9-1, 5-1 MIAA) tied the game in the fourth when
Chase Graskewicz drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run. UCM went in front for good with another single run in the sixth inning when Graskewicz drove in
Albert Selanders with an infield single.
The Mules blew the game wide open with 11 runs in the top of the seventh inning. 14 batters came to the plate for UCM in the frame. Central Missouri finished the game with 13 hits.
John Oropeza and
Brad Wilson had three hits apiece to pace the Mules, while Wilson had three RBI and Graskewicz and Oropeza each drove in two runs.
Lee Stoppelman (1-0) earned the win for UCM after giving up just one run on four hits in 5.1 innings. He walked one and struck out seven in his first start of the season.
Adam Maddox and
Blake Kolons combined to throw 1.2 innings of one-hit relief.
Tyler Stefan (0-3) took the loss for Truman after giving up two runs on six hits in 5.1 innings.
Game two was scoreless through three innings before the Mules jumped in front with three runs in the fourth inning. Oropeza scored the first run on a bunt by Selanders. Wilson drove in one with an RBI single and Graskewicz added a sacrifice fly to give UCM a 3-0 lead.
The Mules tacked on two more runs the following inning when Oropeza drove the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a two-run home run, his first of the season.
UCM added one more run in the seventh when Graskewicz drove in his fourth run of the day with a single to center.
The six runs was more than enough for Central Missouri starter
Kyle Jackson who tossed six solid innings allowing only three hits while striking out five.
Dane Krone and
Jason Bell combined to throw three innings of two-hit relief with Bell pitching the eighth and ninth innings in his first appearance of the season.
Bret Schwartz had three hits in the game for the Mules, while Graskewicz and Oropeza each drove in two.
Logan Siegler (1-2) took the loss for the Bulldogs giving up six runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings. He walked four and struck out two.
The two teams will wrap up the series with another doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. They will play a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning game.
