(EMPORIA, Kan.) – The seventh-ranked Central Missouri Jennies kicked off the final week of the regular season with their 20th straight set victory of the season, 25-19, 25-14, 25-20 over Emporia State. Seniors
Paula Harris and
Allie Huffman each recorded a team-high 14 kills. Huffman also collected 11 digs, reaching her ninth double-double of 2011.
Central Missouri showed up ready to play, taking eight of the first nine points. Four different Jennies scored kills during the opening run. The Hornets closed the gap to four at 16-12 before back-to-back kills from Huffman kicked off a 7-3 run that closed out the set.
After both sides struggled to hold serve at the start of the second game, the Jens gained a three point edge, highlighted by a pair of service aces from
Julia Bates. Central Missouri finished off the Hornets with a 14-5 run to win, 25-14.
UCM continued the dominating performance in the third game, immediately siding the Hornets out on the first eight rotations and going up 20-9. The Hornets answered with an 11-3 run to get back in the set at 23-20, but a pair of kills from Harris and
Taylor Goodness finished off the Jennies victory.
Sophomore setter
Julia Bates finished the match with 38 assists, marking the 13th straight match of 30 or more assists. Defensively,
Kelsey Ortwerth, along with Huffman, led the Jennies with 11 digs, while senior libero
Taylor Krejci collected ten.
The Jennies improve to 25-4 and 15-1 in conference play. The Jens return home for the final two matches of the season, starting on Friday night against #4 Washburn. The four senior players will be honored as a part of the Senior Night festivities, as the match between the top two teams in the MIAA will be broadcast on 1450 KOKO and 98.5 “The Bar,” as well as online at www.WarrensburgRadio.com.
