(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – The 7th-ranked Central Missouri Jennies knocked off Emporia State in three sets, 25-22, 25-21, 25-13, in the 13th consecutive match the Jens have won by a 3-0 score. The streak breaks the UCM record, originally set back in 1982, when matches were played in a best-of-3 format. Senior hitter
Allie Huffman posted her second double-double in as many matches, and her third over the past five, with 12 kills and a season-high 18 digs. Teammate
Paula Harris led the Jennies with 15 kills.
The opening set featured four lead changes and 10 ties, as both sides struggled to put together a run; both the Jennies and Hornets sided out over 60% of their receptions. With the set tied at 19, a kill from
Taylor Goodness proved to give the Jennies the lead for good. A Hornet attack error followed giving UCM a 21-19 lead that would result in a 25-22 set victory.
The Hornets seemed to bounce back in the second set, leading throughout, until a late run by the Jennies turned the set around. Down 19-17, the Jennies started their comeback, sparked by a kill from setter
Julia Bates. Six straight kills, four coming from Harris and two from Bates, changed what was a two point Hornet lead into a 23-19 UCM advantage. The Hornets rallied for two more scores, but Harris collected her seventh kill of the set to win, 25-21. The Jens put together a dominating performance in the third and final set, leading 22-6. Emporia State finished with seven of the final 10 points in the set, but were too far behind to mount the comeback.
