The Central Missouri volleyball team has announced the signing of 10-year-old Morgan Steeby to the roster in a NLI (National Letter of Intent) signing day ceremony on Monday, Sept. 9, inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.Â
Â
Steeby and the Jens were connected through Team Impact, an organization that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college sports teams, creating long-term and life-changing experiences for everyone involved.
Â
"This is an exciting day for Jennies volleyball," head coachÂ
Caitlin Peterson said. "When we recruit players, we look for people who are mentally tough, are relentless in their pursuit of greatness, and the ability to handle adversity. These are all characteristics that we see in Morgan in her challenges that she faces daily."
Â
A native of East Lynne, Mo., Steeby was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis in April of 2023, which is a rare cancer-like condition that initiates the over production of histiocyte cells in the body.
Â
After the discovery of tumors on Morgan's temporal and orbital bones, she began months of intensive oral and infusion chemo treatments with little progress. Her care was then transferred to a specialist in Cincinnati, Ohio where she's midway through a two-year experimental gene therapy treatment regimen.
Â
"We're so excited for you (Morgan) to be on the journey with us," redshirt juniorÂ
Justine Bichelmeyer said. "Your presence has and will continue to be an amazing example to all of us here on the team. Once a Jen, always a Jen!"
Â
Steeby was joined by her parents Sarah and Dillen, along with her twin sister Emma and brother Aaron. Morgan will wear number 10 for the Jennies in honor of turning 10-years old on February 10
