McGinnis redshirted the 2016-17 season but still competed unattached at opens.

Before Central Missouri: McGinnis wrestled at Ottawa University his freshman year before joining the Mules wrestling program.

In high school: McGinnis graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School. In his senior season, he placed fourth at the 6A Kansas State Tournament. He also competed in football.

Personal: Majoring in exercise science ... Son of Susan and the late Farrel McGinnis.
