ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Brock Kobel went 4-for-4 with a homer and five RBI,
Chase Wilcox homered, and
Hayes Allen had six strikeouts on the mound, helping No. 4-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball post a 15-3, seven-inning, run-rule victory over the Maryville Saints in a midweek game on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Weber Baseball Field.
The Mules (12-2, 3-0 MIAA) are scheduled to return home to Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field in Warrensburg for a three-game MIAA series against Newman (3-10, 1-2 MIAA) Feb. 27 through March 1.
UCM jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a trio of runs in the third inning.
Michael Smosna scored on an error for the opening run of the game before
Cole Kreisel crossed home plate on an RBI ground-out from
Kaiden Ashton.
Chase Wilcox provided the big hit of the inning, belting his first home run of the season – a solo homer to right field.
The Mules blew the game wide open in the top of the fourth, plating seven runs for a 10-0 lead.
Cole Funkhouser ignited the scoring with an RBI single through the left side, prior to Â
Grant Hollister belting a two-run double down the right field line, increasing the advantage to 6-0.
Kobel crushed a baseball over the right-center field fence for a three-run home run – his first of 2026, and
Drew Veatch smacked an RBI single to right-center for the final four runs of the inning.
The Saints (4-6) scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the UCM lead to 10-3, but the Mules responded with a run in the top of the fifth when Funkhouser drove in Smosna with an RBI single through the right side, building the lead to 11-3.
Central Missouri put the game away in the top of the seventh, tallying four runs for its 15-run total. Ashton drove in a run on an RBI single to right-center, Wilcox scored Smosna on a sacrifice fly, and Kobel posted his fourth and fifth RBIs of the game on a two-run single to left field for UCM's four runs in the frame.
Kobel went 4-for-4 with his homer and five runs batted in, Funkhouser was 2-for-2 with two RBI, Wilcox homered, and Hollister,
Evan Vienhage, and
Collin Dobson each had doubles, leading the Mules at the plate in the game.
Allen (1-0) earned the win on the rubber after allowing no earned runs on zero hits with six strikeouts and just one walk in three innings.
UCM outhit Maryville, 13-2, and committed zero errors, while the Saints had two miscues in the contest.
