Jennies Basketball Uses Late Rally to Defeat Bearcats in Maryville, 66-61

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Reese Schaaf, Taylor Weishaar, and Neely Schaaf all scored in double figures as the University of Central Missouri women's basketball team posted a 66-61 victory over the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats on Wednesday evening, Jan. 7, inside Bearcat Arena.

The Jennies (10-4, 4-1 MIAA) are scheduled to travel to St. Joseph, Mo., for a MIAA game at Missouri Western State University (5-9, 1-4 MIAA) on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 1:30 p.m.

Trailing 61-54 late in the fourth quarter, the Jennies held the Bearcats scoreless for the final 5:32 of the game, outscoring NWMSU, 12-0, to rally for the 66-61 triumph.

Reese Schaaf tallied a game-high 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and a perfect 10-of-10 showing at the free-throw line, and snagged 10 rebounds for her team-best fourth double-double of the season, while Weishaar posted 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting and a 4-of-5 performance at the free-throw line, and Neely Schaaf added a career-best 15 points to go along with nine rebounds, pacing UCM in the contest.

For the game, Central Missouri shot 39 percent from the floor (19-of-49), 44 percent from three-point range (7-of-16), and were an impressive 21-of-23 at the free-throw line for 91 percent.

The Bearcats (9-6, 2-3 MIAA) outrebounded the Jennies, 47-33, and outscored UCM in the paint, 40-20.

Ella Moody (13 points) and Andrea Lopreato (12 points) paced Northwest Missouri State in the game.
