Jennies Basketball Escapes MoWest with 58-55 Victory Saturday

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Reese Schaaf posted her third straight and team-best fifth double-double of the season, and Taylor Weishaar and Neely Schaaf both scored in double figures as the University of Central Missouri Jennies Basketball team earned a 58-55 victory over the Missouri Western State University Griffons on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 10, inside the MWSU Fieldhouse.

The Jennies (11-4, 5-1 MIAA) are scheduled to travel to Wichita, Kan., for a MIAA game at Newman (7-7, 1-4 MIAA) on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 5:30 p.m.

Central Missouri led by seven points, 50-43, with 5:19 to go in the fourth quarter before MoWest made a late charge, trimming the UCM lead to one twice in the final two minutes, but Reese Schaaf made three free throws in the final 1:24, and MWSU missed a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer, securing the Central Missouri triumph.

Reese Schaaf went 7-of-14 from the field and 3-of-5 at the free-throw line for her 18 points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds for the double-double. Weishaar added 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor and a 5-of-6 showing at the free-throw line, and Neely Schaaf had 11 points, rounding out the UCM leaders.

The Jennies shot 31 percent from the floor (20-of-64) and attempted 39 three-pointers in the game, converting eight for 21 percent. UCM went 10 out of 15 at the foul line for 67 percent. Central Missouri outrebounded Missouri Western State University (5-10, 1-5 MIAA), 43-32.

The 39 three-point attempts were four shy of tying the program single-game record of 43 set in 2008 against Graceland.

Ana Dias Oliveira tallied 20 points, and Mia Morel added 11 points, leading MoWest.
