UMSL Inches Past Jennies Basketball in Low-Scoring Contest Monday, 59-57

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Reese Schaaf and Taylor Weishaar each scored 15 points, but it wasn't enough as the University of Central Missouri women's basketball team fell to the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons, 59-57, in a non-conference game on Monday, Dec. 15, inside the Mark Twain Center.

The Jennies (6-4) are scheduled to host Stephens College (2-10) on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m. in Warrensburg at the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center.

Central Missouri led the game, 54-52, with just under four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter when the Tritons (8-2) went on a 7-0 run, gaining a 59-54 advantage after two free throws by Jayden Kuper with 1:47 to go.

UCM was able to pull within 59-57 with 1:24 on the clock after Weishaar connected on a jumper and was fouled, making the bonus free throw, but Central Missouri missed two baskets in the final minute, sealing the win for UMSL.

Weishaar went 5-of-13 from the field and was 4-of-5 at the free-throw line for her 15 points, while Schaaf was 6-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-3 at the charity stripe for her 15 points. Makenzie Farmer also reached double-figure scoring with 10 points.

Central Missouri outrebounded UMSL, 34-31, and outscored the Tritons in the paint, 28-24, but struggled shooting the basketball, going just 21-of-53 from the field (40 percent) and 6-of-24 from three-point range (25 percent) in the game.

Mara Rieder and Kuper each had 20 points, pacing the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
