Jennies Volleyball Defeats Fort Hays State 3-1 Saturday Night in Warrensburg

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (5-6, 1-1 MIAA) defeated the Fort Hays State Tigers (9-2, 1-1 MIAA) by a final score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-16) on Saturday, Sept. 28, from Dr. Peggy Martin Court inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.  
 
After dropping the opening set of the match, Central Missouri answered with a 7-1 run to begin the second cruising to a 25-15 win outhitting the Tigers by a margin of .306 to .051 thanks to a set-high seven kills from sophomore Maya Fergerson. The Independence, Mo., native ended the night with a match-high 20 kills on 42 swings for a .381 attack percentage for good measure.
 
The Jens began the third set on an 8-1 run and never relinquished taking a 2-1 advantage as outside hitter Tiffany Little (17 kills on 32 attempts for a .469 hitting percentage adding 12 digs, three blocks, and two service aces overall) led the way with a set-best five kills on seven swings for a .714 attack percentage.
 
UCM began the fourth set on a 4-1 run en route to their fifth victory of the year highlighted by a match-high 51 assists and nine digs from junior Kayla Baer while sophomore Elinor Engel had 10 kills and two digs on the night.
 
Defensively, the Jens were led in the front row by middle blocker Rachel Ziesman's match-best five blocks adding seven kills while redshirt junior Grace Winkelmann paced the back row with a match-high 22 digs and three assists.
 
Senior Arley Anderson collected nine digs along with a career-high four service aces, plus, defensive specialist Emma Wheeler had six digs and freshman Grace Wagers added four kills in the winning effort.  
 
The Jens return to the court on Friday, Oct. 4, as they continue conference play hosting the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions (9-4, 1-1 MIAA) beginning at 6:00 p.m. from Dr. Peggy Martin Court inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.
