WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Conner Wolf pitched his fourth complete-game of the year and tallied eight strikeouts as No. 2-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball shutout the Fort Hays State Tigers, 13-0 in seven innings, in the opening game of a three-game MIAA series Friday, March 22, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (24-4, 12-2 MIAA) and Tigers (18-10, 6-8 MIAA) are scheduled to play game two of the series at noon Saturday, March 23, in Warrensburg.
A junior right-hander from Tipton, Mo., Wolf improved to 6-0 on the mound this season after allowing no earned runs on just four hits with eight Ks and zero walks over seven innings and 80 pitches.
Jacob Steele (7),
Brennen van Breusegen (8) and
Max Holy (7) all recorded home runs in the victory. Steele was 2-for-3 with a solo homer, van Breusegen was 2-for-4 with a two-run round-tripper, Holy was 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and four RBIs,
Josh Patrick was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and
Jack Schark was 2-for-3, rounding out the UCM leaders at the plate.
Isaiah Ural had a pair of hits, pacing the Tigers offensively.
Fort Hays State starting pitcher Ty Riley (2-2) suffered the loss on the rubber, giving up six runs – five earned – on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks in four innings.
