WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Fourth-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules baseball swept a doubleheader against the Davenport University Panthers Saturday, Feb. 17, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field, winning game one, 3-1 in seven innings, before taking game two, 10-2.
The Mules (7-2) and Panthers (0-2) will play another twin bill to wrap up their four-game series Sunday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.
In UCM's 3-1 game one win, starting pitcher
Conner Wolf tossed a complete game to lead Central Missouri in the triumph.
Wolf went the full seven innings, allowing just one earned run on two hits with nine strikeouts and only one walk on 87 pitches to improve to 2-0 on the mound this season.
At the plate, outfielder
Jack Schark paced the Mules in the opener, going 2-for-3 with a home run, double and RBI.
Carter Young also collected a double in the win.
Carson Price was 1-for-2 with a homer, pacing Davenport in game one offensively.
Panther starting pitcher Tyler McKinstry (0-1) suffered the setback after surrendering one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks in four innings of work.
In the Mules' 10-2 victory in the nightcap, UCM used a five-run seventh inning to blow the game open and secure the doubleheader sweep.
Schark homered for the second straight game, moving his season total to three, and doubled while driving in a run, and
Jacob Steele was a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate with a double and four RBIs, leading UCM in game two.
Josh Patrick and
Brennen van Breusegen each had doubles, and
Brett Grupe compiled a triple and drove in two runs.
Central Missouri relief pitcher
Tyler Kotsis (1-0) picked up the win on the rubber, giving up one earned run on three hits with three Ks and a walk in three innings out of the bullpen.
Price homered for the second straight contest, and Josh Robinson had two hits, pacing Davenport at the plate in game two.
Carson Fischer (0-1) took the game two loss on the mound for the Panthers, allowing two runs – one earned – on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks in four innings.
