JOPLIN, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (6-8, 2-3 MIAA) swept the Missouri Southern Lions (2-14, 0-5 MIAA) by a final score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 28-26) on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center in Joplin.
After taking the open set of the match with a solo block from sophomore
Elinor Engel (10 kills and four blocks overall) for a 25-20 victory, Central Missouri began the second on a 6-1 run and never relinquished taking a 2-0 advantage in the match outhitting the Lions .323 to .068 in the set.
Missouri Southern began the third set on an 8-2 run, but the Jens evened play at 22 before completing the comeback with a 6-2 run earning their sixth win of the season.
Central Missouri was paced offensively by outside hitters
Maya Fergerson (eight digs and a .300 hitting percentage) and
Tiffany Little (five digs and a .333 attack percentage) with 11 kills each, while junior
Rachel Ziesman collected a match-high five blocks adding seven kills on 16 swings (.375 hitting percenate) for good measure.
Leading the Jens defensive efforts in the back row was libero
Grace Winkelmann's 15 digs, plus, Wesley Chapel, Fla. native
Kayla Baer recorded her second double-double performance of the year with a match-best 40 assists and 11 digs. Freshman
Brenna Kelly collected 11 digs while middle blocker / right side
Grace Wagers added five kills and two blocks on the night.
The Jens return to the court on Friday, Oct. 11, as they continue conference play against the Pittsburg State Gorillas (7-8, 2-3 MIAA) beginning at 6:00 p.m. from John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kan.
