PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (6-9, 2-4 MIAA) fell to the Pittsburg State Gorillas (8-8, 3-3 MIAA) by a final score of 3-1 (26-28, 25-23, 17-25, 18-25) on Friday, Oct. 11, from John Lance Arena in Pittsburg.
After dropping the open set of the match and tied at 14 in the second, Central Missouri went on a 3-0 run highlighted by back-to-back kills from outside hitter
Maya Fergerson (14 kills and two digs overall) and never relinquished en route to a 25-23 set victory evening the match at one.
The Gorillas answered with a pair of set wins as they earned their eighth win of the year led by Ivy Fink's double-double performance.
The Jens were led offensively by junior
Rachel Ziesman's career and match-high 20 kills, while middle blocker
Elinor Engel added 14 kills on the night. Defensively, redshirt junior
Grace Winkelmann paced the back row with a match-high 24 digs, plus, defensive specialist
Arley Anderson collected eight digs and freshman
Brenna Kelly added seven digs.
Setter
Kayla Baer had a match-high 48 assists adding four digs while Parker, Colo. native
Tiffany Little contributed six kills and three digs.
The Jens return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 12, as they continue conference play against the Newman Jets (3-17, 0-6 MIAA) beginning at 3:00 p.m. from Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.
