Jennies Volleyball Falters Against Washburn Saturday

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (7-11, 3-6 MIAA) fell to the Washburn Ichabods (15-4, 6-3 MIAA) by a final score of 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 22-25, 12-25) on Saturday, Oct. 19, from Dr. Peggy Martin Court inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.   
 
After trailing 19-11 in the opening set, the Jens rallied with an 8-1 run before tying the set at 24 all. Beginning with a Maya Fergerson (match-high 14 kills and two blocks overall) kill from Kayla Baer (match-best 40 assists and eight digs overall), UCM completed the comeback with a service ace from senior Tiffany Little (eight kills, three digs, and three blocks overall) taking a 1-0 lead.
 
Washburn responded with three straight set wins picking up their 15th victory of the season led by Jalyn Stevenson's double-double performance.
 
The Jens were paced defensively in the back row with a career and match-high 34 digs from libero Grace Winkelmann, while sophomore Elinor Engel led the front row with five blocks adding 13 kills for good measure.
 
Defensive specialist Brenna Kelly collected eight digs, plus junior Rachel Ziesman had seven kills and four blocks. Defensive specialist Kirsten Harper contributed seven digs while opposite hitter Lauren Blake collected a career-high four kills and a career-best three blocks.
 
The Jens return to the court on Friday, Oct. 25, hosting the Missouri Southern Lions (3-17, 1-8 MIAA), for Homecoming 2024 beginning at 7:00 p.m. from Dr. Peggy Martin Court inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.
