Jennies Volleyball Takes Down Lions in Four

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (8-11, 4-6 MIAA) defeated the Missouri Southern Lions (3-18, 1-9 MIAA) by a final score of 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19) on Friday, Oct. 25, during Homecoming Weekend from Dr. Peggy Martin Court inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.   
 
After dropping the opening set of the match, Central Missouri evened the match with a 25-23 victory in the second ending the set on a 5-0 run highlighted by a pair of kills from sophomore Elinor Engel (10 kills, four digs, and three blocks overall) and outside hitter Shaye Koski (13 kills and three digs overall).
 
The Jens continued their winning ways in the third and fourth sets, earning their eighth victory of the season and fourth in MIAA play led by sophomore Maya Fergerson's team-high 17 kills on 34 swings for a .382 hitting percentage while adding a career-best four blocks for good measure.
 
Middle blocker Rachel Ziesman paced the defensive efforts in the front row with four blocks, adding 13 kills on 24 attempts (match-high .417 attack percentage), plus, sophomore Lauren Blake contributed a career-best seven kills, career-high three digs, and two blocks.
 
UCM outhit the Lions by a margin of .262 to .228 on the night led by libero Grace Winkelmann's match-high 21 digs, while defensive specialist Brenna Kelly collected 12 digs. Setter Regan Willms had a match and career-high 35 assists and eight digs while Wesley Chapel, Fla. native Kayla Baer added 14 assists and five digs and sophomore Kirsten Harper had six digs in the winning effort.
 
The Jens return to the court on Friday, Nov. 1, as they take on No. 10 Central Oklahoma Bronchos (20-2, 7-2 MIAA), beginning at 6:00 p.m. from Hamilton Field House in Edmond, Okla.
