Sixteen Mules Earn All-MIAA Honors; Zebrowski, Lamberson Take Home Top Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The sixth-ranked and MIAA Champion Central Missouri Mules football team had 16 student-athletes earn All-MIAA honors for their performances on the football field during the 2023 MIAA conference season, the conference office announced Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Redshirt junior quarterback Zach Zebrowski and head coach Josh Lamberson took home the conference's top honors. Zebrowski was voted the MIAA Offensive Player of the Year while Lamberson earned MIAA Coach of the Year accolades.

Zebrowski, wide receiver Arkell Smith, all-purpose back Marcellous Hawkins, offensive lineman Gabe Clark, defensive lineman David Olajiga and defensive back Wyryor Noil were all voted First Team All-MIAA.

Second Team All-MIAA accolades went to Hawkins as a running back, wide receivers Demarcus Gregory and Jack Pospisil, offensive lineman Liam Wortmann, defensive lineman Weston King, linebacker Cale Miller and defensive back Curtis Appleton II.

Rounding out the UCM all-conference honorees were Honorable Mention All-MIAA recipients Price Morgan (wide receiver), Reed Kaburick (offensive lineman), Joshua Bean (defensive lineman) and Noah Blair (defensive back).

Zebrowski, who hails from Woodbury, Minn., leads NCAA Division II and the MIAA with 424.4 total offensive yards per game, 4,265 passing yards, 387.7 passing yards per game and 49 passing touchdowns entering the NCAA-II Playoffs. He set new MIAA and UCM single-game records with eight passing touchdowns, 615 passing yards and 673 yards of total offense in Central Missouri's 77-27 win over then No. 23-ranked Emporia State Oct. 21. Entering the postseason, Zebrowski has already set a UCM single season record for passing TDs with 49 and has thrown for at least 300 yards in a school record 10 games in 2023.

A redshirt senior from Carthage, Mo., Smith leads NCAA Division II and the MIAA in receiving yards with 1,224 in 11 games and is fifth in receiving touchdowns with 14. He holds the Central Missouri career record for receiving touchdowns (30) and receptions (183) and is second in career receiving yards (2,615). Smith has tallied at least 100 receiving yards in seven games this season.

Hawkins, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, Okla., earned first team honors as an all-purpose back and second team accolades as a running back after posting a team-high 1,026 rushing yards on 148 carries while scoring 11 rushing touchdowns in 11 games this season. Hawkins also has a pair of receiving TDs on 29 catches for 203 yards through the air.

Clark, a redshirt junior from Lawrence, Kan., has helped Central Missouri average an NCAA-II and MIAA best 412.8 passing yards per game and 598.9 yards of total offense per game.

Olajiga, a redshirt senior from London, England, has 31 tackles, including eight tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks for 31 yards, one forced fumble and three blocked kicks in 10 games while Noil, a redshirt senior from Portland, Ore., has a team-high five interceptions and 15 pass breakups on the season.

Gregory, a redshirt junior from Duncan, S.C., has five receiving TDs on 46 catches and 493 yards in 11 games, and Pospisil, a redshirt sophomore from Arvada, Colo., has seven touchdowns through the air on 58 catches and 680 yards.

Wortmann, a junior from Piedmont, Okla., has been instrumental in helping the UCM offense to a nation-best 412.8 passing yards and 598.9 yards of total offense per game this season.

King, a junior from Taylor, Mo., enters the postseason with 36 total tackles, including five tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks for 24 yards and a fumble recovery while Miller, a redshirt junior from Mt. Vernon, Mo., has a team-high 63 tackles, going along with 8.5 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks for 23 yards and one interception.

Appleton, a redshirt junior from Denver, Colo., is second on the team through 11 games with 57 tackles, in addition to an interception, pass breakup and fumble recovery.

Morgan, a sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, has six touchdowns on 45 catches and 426 receiving yards in 11 games while Kaburick, a redshirt junior from Edwardsville, Ill., has been a key contributor to Central Missouri's nation-best 412.8 passing yards and 598.9 yards of total offense per game in 2023.

Bean, a redshirt sophomore from Memphis, Tenn., has 25 tackles, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss in 11 contests so far this season while Blair, a redshirt junior from Lenexa, Kan., has 42 tackles, three interceptions and two pass breakups in 10 games.

Lamberson, in just his second season as head coach, helped guide the Mules to their first MIAA Championship since 2019 and an overall record of 10-1 entering the NCAA-II Playoffs. UCM has won eight straight games going into postseason action.

Central Missouri is scheduled to host Henderson State in a first round NCAA-II Playoff Game Saturday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field in Warrensburg.
